Delta 8 FAQ
The recent rise of Delt-8 products has brought up a lot of questions for many people who are curious about these products. Here are the most commonly asked questions about Delta 8. If you have any questions that aren’t addressed here, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
1. What exactly is Delta 8?
Delta-8 THC is much less potent, naturally occurring, psychoactive compound that’s only slightly different from Delta-9 THC. Like Delta-9 THC, it is found in the Cannabis plant, but unlike Delta-9, it’s effects are mild and it’s legal which is why it is often called “marijuana-lite.”
Although Delta-8 THC is natural, most of what is available on the market has been produced in a laboratory. There is a fantastic, step-by-step, article on how Delta-8 is made in the lab and if you want to take a deep dive into the process, please go check it out. The key takeaway from that article though is to buy Delta-8 from brands that you trust to perform adequate testing.
2. Will Delta 8 products get me high?
Although little research has been done, according to Webmd (https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/what-is-delta-8), users report therapeutic benefits that Delta-8 helps with depression, substance use, nausea, appetite, and pain relief. Some adverse side effects have been reported including: confusion, anxiety, slow/fast heart rate, numbness, low blood pressure.
This abstract reports that Delta-8’s psychoactive affects are about 66% less than Delta 9 THC.
From personal experience with Delta-8, the “high” is a very calm, relaxed, peaceful state. Followed by really deep, nourishing sleep. And, I wholeheartedly agree that it produces the same “munchies” as with Delta-9.
3. Will Delta 8 show up on drug screenings?
Yes. Urine drug tests aren’t designed to distinguish the difference between various cannabinoids and Delta-8 THC metabolizes the same way as Delta-9. This will most likely result in a positive drug test.
4. Is Delta 8 legal in North Carolina?
Yes. Hemp containing less than 0.3 percent Delta-9 THC was legalized in the 2018 Farm Bill. There is concern over whether it will remain legal because some believe the synthetic process involved to create Delta-8, removes it from the Farm Bill legislation protection. It is often called “synthetic THC” by critics and in their eyes, unlawful under the Controlled Substances Act.
At this point, neither Federal nor NC State Government has addressed Delta-8 specifically. In North Carolina, Senate Bill 711 (legalization of medical marijuana) advanced out of the state Senate committee. The next stop for the bill is passing the Senate Rules Committee, then the full state senate, and then to the NC House of Representatives. It still isn’t clear how the medical marijuana bill would impact the questions about Delta-8. You can read all about this bill and it’s progress through NC Legislative branches in this article by the News & Observer.
5. How can you consume Delta 8?
Delta 8 is available in nearly every form CBD is offered. At High Cotton Hemp, we sell Delta-8 Gummies and Delta-8 smokable hemp buds.
6. How long does it take to feel the effects of Delta-8?
You’ll experience different efficacy rates depending on how you consume the Delta-8. Edibles can take up to 2 hours while inhaling only takes a few minutes.
7. How long will I feel the effects of Delta-8?
Again, it will differ depending on how it was ingested, but generally speaking, when inhaled, it will last around 3-4 hours and edibles can last up to 10 hours.
8. Why Delta-8?
Delta-8 allows users to enjoy weed without trading off their peace of mind. Delta-9 THC gives an intense high which in some people, sometimes leans toward anxiety and paranoia. Delta-8 can be much more enjoyable and relaxing for people who are affected adversely by Delta-9.
